The Neon Beat on Mixcloud - July 1, 2022

On The Neon Beat Show 86R6:  Bobby Goldsboro takes the stage as we open this hour with one his biggest hit records.  One of the few he did not write himself. Listen to Bobby sing “Watching Scotty Grow”.  Then listen to a latter 1950's hit song sung by Dinah Washington, “What a Difference a Day Makes”.  The Crew Cuts are next with their 1950's standard, “Life Could Be a Dream”, popularly known as “Sh'Boom”.  Hear other fine period groups like The Chordettes with “Mr. Sandman” and the Fifth Dimension with “Up Up and Away”.  We'll spin a little honey in the horn with Al Hirt as he toots out “Sugar Lips”.  Hear some film and stage music with Shirley Bassey with a James Bond film theme, Lucille Ball with a song from “Wildcat”, Les Baxter with the theme from a John Wayne film, Perry Como with a stirring rendition of a song from “Fiddler on the Roof” and a boob tube selection with Capitol records Al Delory playing the theme from MASH.  Nat King Cole will sing some great Johnny Mercer with “Day In, Day Out”.  We'll spin a hit for Glen Campbell, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” followed with Roy Rogers singing a Cole Porter standard “Don't Fence Me In.”  More with Johnny Mathis, Sam Cooke, and Al Martino.  Turn it up!

On the Neon Beat Show 85R6:  Oklahoman, Kay Starr launches into this session as we go “Swingin' Down the Lane” followed up by some spicy salsa with Perez Prado's Orchestra doing “Mambo Number Five”.  Next a stage and theatre piece with Mel Torme singing a number from “Guys and Dolls” followed up with some fun Rat Packin' with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.  We'll track more stage and film songs with the orchestra of Percy Faith performing “The song from Moulin Rouge”,  Frank Sinatra sings his 1959 hit “Love and Marriage”, Rosemary Clooney and her sister Betty sing the song, “Sisters” and Dinah Washington does the beautiful and reticent song, “September in the Rain”.  Swing along with some big band selections with the orchestras of Benny Goodman and Harry James.  You'll hear a selection by a Chicago man whom Frank Sinatra called, “the smoothest chops in the business”:  Lou Rawls sings, “Lady Love”. Dinah Shore sings “The Gypsy” followed up with The Vogues doing a great old Four Lads cover, “No Not Much”.  We'll spin the New Christy Minstrels with “Green Green” featuring the rustic voice of Barry McGuire.  More with Ed Ames, Andy Williams, and a 1966 signature hit song for Aaron Neville.  “Tell it Like it Is”.

On the Neon Beat Show 84R6:  We open this hour with Brazilian born, Sergio Mendez and his group Brazil 66 singing their 1969 hit song, “Pretty World”.  Enjoy more great songs as we track hit songs by other period groups like The Four Freshmen who'll sing a song originally performed by actress Dorothy Lamour in the 1944 film, “And the Angels Sing”.  We'll track a mid 50's hit for The Four Lads as they sing, “Moments to Remember”.  And listen to The Platters with their hit version of “Twilight Time”.  Enjoy a little pop salsa as you listen to Trini Lopez with “Lemon Tree” followed up with Perry Como singing, “South of the Border”.  We'll spin a Broadway selection with Ed Ames performing “My Cup Runneth Over” followed up with Petula Clark singing “It's a Sign of the Times” and Bobby Goldsboro singing about “The Straight Life”.  Turn up some Dino as we listen to one of Dean Martin's signature hit songs, “Everybody Loves Somebody” and Ella Fitzgerald with a swinging version of “Let Yourself Go”.  Hear Frank Sinatra with a fine Harold Arlen song followed up by the Four Lads and a beautiful instrumental selection by Haygood Hardy called “The Homecoming”.  Listen to a fun standard performed from the Vegas floor by Louis Prima and Keely Smith.  More with Patti Page, Billy Vaughn, Ray Charles and ... uh...cluck along with a version of a great swing standard by The Henhouse Five.”

On the Neon Beat Show 83R6:  Perry Como takes a stab on cashing in with the new sound called Rock and Roll with his 1956 hit record with Mitchell Ayers and the Ray Charles Singers, “Jukebox Baby”.  Dean Martin takes the stage next with “Powder Your Face with Sunshine” followed up with a period film song sung by The Chordettes, “Never on Sunday”.  Listen to more hit groups this like The Ames Brothers and the Four Lads.  Enjoy another film hit song by Henry Mancini called “Dear Heart”.  Catch some great standards with Jane Morgan singing “Fascination”, Louis Armstrong with “Takes Two to Tango”, and the great Ray Charles with a lovely rendition of a Hoagy Carmichael standard.  We'll team up Nancy Sinatra with Lee Hazelwood for the “Tennessee Birdwalk”.  Enjoy a fine pairing of Hugo Winterhalter's RCA Orchestra with jazz pianist Eddie Heywood for “Canadian Sunset”.  Turn up actress Debbie Reynolds for “A Very Special Love”, followed up with Nat King Cole singing with the Four Knights.  We'll spin the song “Half as Much” sung by Rosemary Clooney and a country standard by Eddy Arnold.  More as we listen to a Broadway piece by Sammy Davis Jr and an inspirational number sung by Elvis Presley.
