The Neon Beat - 9.17.21

On the Neon Beat (show 61r6)  Sammy Davis Jr begins the festivities with a Broadway selection that went down as a hit song for the man in 1968.  Listen to the song, “I've Gotta Be Me.”  Frank Sinatra takes the stage next for some classic Cole Porter music.  Then we'll let Lady Ella have the mic for “It's Only a Paper Moon” with the Delta Rhythm Boys.  Hear more songs from our stock of singing paisanos including Perry Como, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin with “That's Amore” and a lovely Chicago lady of Italian stock named Joni James with the song, “I Still Get a Thrill.”  We'll spin a WW2 era hit song by the Nat King Cole Trio called “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”  Snap your fingers with a snazzy version of Victor Young's “Around the World” sung by Oklahoman Kay Starr.  Listen to some fine period groups like The Four Aces, The Mills Brothers, and the Fontane Sisters with a song still sung by children to this day.  “Playmates.”  Hear Jimmie Rodgers with a latter 1950's hit song that became the name for a Post breakfast cereal.  Enjoy two film songs.  One sung by Dinah Shore from the film, “The Paleface” and a song by Pat Boone with the title song from “April Love.”  Hop aboard “The “A” Train” as we listen to the orchestra of Bert Kaempfert.  More with Tony Bennett and Michael Buble.  Enjoy the ride!
