On the Neon Beat Show 102R6: Got quite a lineup of the stars of the era represented in this edition of the show beginning with a song that, at first glance, Petula Clark couldn't stand. She didn't feel it was consistant with her style. Her good friend and producer Tony Hatch talked her into it and she enjoyed a high charting hit with the song. Petula Clark opens the hour with “My Love”. Next we have a little fun with a jazzy Vegas-y version of a Victor Young song called “Around the World” performed by Armando “Buddy”Greco. Then we'll go to Diana Krall's award winning “Live in Paris” album for a good ol' Harold Arlen standard. Hear more great women of songs as we listen to standards by Patti Page, Peggy Lee and Bobbie Gentry performing with Glen Campbell. We'll track fine songs from the post Big Band with Frank Sinatra singing “When You're Smiling”, Frankie Laine with “Love is a Golden Ring”, Nat King Cole with the Les Baxter Orchestra, and Vic Damone with the song, “In the Still of the Night”. Listen to some fine period groups like The Four Preps, The Dixie Cups, Dennis Yost and the Classics Four, and Simon and Garfunkel singing “Scarborough Faire”. Our instrumental offerings include Benny Goodman with the “King Porter Stomp”, Michel Legrand doing “Tico Tico”, and Paul Mauriat with his 1968 chart buster song, “Love is Blue”. More with Johnny Mathis and Jimmie Rodgers.
