The Neon Beat on Radio George - 5.18.15

Petula Clark sings a song written by Charlie Chaplain for “The Countess from Hong Kong.” (didn’t actually make the film so Charlie gave it to Pet to record) Listen to Bobby Darin do a swingin’ version of “I Got Rhythm.” Hear The Moe Kauffman Septet with the “Swinging Shepherd Blues.” We’ll play the Four Knights (a group that backed Nat King Cole in several recordings) with their 1950’s hit single, “I Get So Lonely.” You’ll hear Al Martino, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and more. (wrong) Hugo Winterhalter’s RCA Orchestra is next with a 1956 hit version of Leroy Anderson’s, “Blue Tango.” Listen to The Chordettes with their 1958 smash hit, “Lollipop.” Listen to some smooth crooning with Frank Sinatra singing “My Blue Heaven” along with Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole’s “Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer.” Hear Eddie Fisher’s lovely tribute song, “Oh Mine Papa.” We’ll team up Bing Crosby with Rosemary Clooney for “Come to the Mardis Gras.” We’ll spin Jo Staffords’ 1951 hit, “Shrimp Boats” and play some classic folk by the Kingston Trio.
