The Neon Beat - 5.16.21

On the Neon Beat this week (show 47r6)  Hang onto your seats. We'll launch this hour with a whirlwind (ala Vegas) treatment of “That Old Black Magic” by Sammy Davis Jr.  Then we take a trip to the windy city with Tony Bennett and Count Basie.  Crank up some fine period film and stage pieces by Dusty Springfield from the Thomas Crown Affair, The Chordettes with “Never on Sunday”, and Frank Sinatra with “Love and Marriage”.  Rosemary Clooney will spice things up with her hit version of “Mangos” followed up with Johnny Mathis's “What Will My Mary Say”.  Then let's motor west with  Nat King Cole and the Trio on the old mother road: “Route 66.”  Sing along with the Mitch Miller Gang with “The Bowery Grenadiers”.  Hear some great big band with Benny Goodman.  Patti Page will sing her lush version of the song “Old Cape Cod”.  Our instrumental tracks include Paul Mauriat's “Love is Blue”, Eddie Heywood's “Soft Summer Breeze” and The Boston Pops with “S' Wonderful.”

We'll spin songs by Sarah Vaughan, Marty Wilde, The Carpenters, and Simon and Garfunkel. Enjoy!
