The Neon Beat - 1.24.21

On the Neon Beat:  New Orleans trumpet Al Hirt launches into this hour with a fun rendition of a honky tonk piece written by RCA Nashville's Floyd Cramer. “Fancy Pants.”  Tony Bennett follows with “Just In Time”, Perry Como with “Magic Moments”, and Al Martino with a dance floor version of “Volare.”  Listen to Barbra Streisand singing the lovely song “People” from Funny Girl.  Get your big band fix with Benny Goodman doing the “Jersey Bounce” after which we team up Bing Crosby with the Andrews Sisters for “Pistol Packin' Mama.”  Enjoy a rousing Cy Coleman song performed by the Marvelous Marilyn Maye.  More songs by Andy Williams, The McGuire Sisters and one by Henry Mancini's Orchestra and Chorus with “The Days of Wine and Roses.”  Enjoy!

The Neon Beat - 1.16.21

On the Neon Beat:  We start things out swingin' as we open the hour with Kay Starr from one of her most celebrated albums.  Harry Connick Jr is next with a little “Recipe for Makin' Love.”  We'll hit the dance floor with selections by Ella Fitzgerald and a “live from Vegas” cut with Nat King Cole. Grab some slow close dancing as we listen to the Ames Brothers with the lovely “You You You” backed with Hugo Winterhalter's orchestra.  Hear the Marvelous Marilyn Maye with “Sherry.”  Get your Sinatra fix as he belts out what'd be his 6th or 7th take for “That's Life.”  (Hence the almost exasperated  “My Myyyy” at the end.)  Catch a folk set with Bobby Darin and one by Melanie Safka by request.  More with Ferrante and Teicher, Wayne Newton, Patti Page, Perry Como and Dinah Shore.  Crank it.

The Neon Beat - 1.2.21

Enjoy an extended version of the show this week as we track some requested music with Glenn Miller and a song by The Hilltoppers.  The great period groups have the mic for much of this hour as we spin hit records by The Four Lads, The New Christy Minstrels, The Vogues, and The Association.  Hear Frank Sinatra with the song about that “Toddlin' Town”, Dionne Warwick with some fine Burt Bacharach music, Barbra Streisand with a song from “Pinocchio', and Nat King Cole with a jazzy rendition of the song “Paper Moon.”  Much more to keep you tapping for a whole hour.  (Or sing along if'n ya don't tap)
