Neon Beat on MixCloud - 4.28.24

On the Neon Beat Show106R6-  Gary Puckett and a band that took their name from a town near Yakima, Washington opens this hour with one of their latter 1960's hit songs, “Over You”.  We follow up, brushing up on our Italian as Connie Francis sings, “Quando Quando Quando”.  Steve Lawrence goes Bob Ross with “A Portrait of My Love” followed with Steve's better half, Eydie Gorme, singing her 1963 hit song, “Blame it on the Bossa Nova” backed by a period group called the Cookies. This hour we'll track a couple of songs remembering Astrud Gilberto.  Hear her signature, “ Girl from Impanema” with Stan Getz, “A Summer Samba” and “Bim Bom”. Listen to more great pop songs on this extended version of the Neon Beat.  Nat King Cole with “Pretend”, Doris Day with “Que Sera Sera”, Tony Bennett sings “If I Ruled the World” and Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby sing one from the film “High Society”. Then enjoy another movie favorite from “South Pacific” sung by Jo Stafford.  Hear more film and stage music with Fred Astaire from “Top Hat”, Barbra Streisand with a song from “House of Flowers” composed by Harold Arlen and Truman Capote.  And Ella Fitzgerald sings a lively Cole Porter number from “Kiss Me Kate”.  We'll spin some great big band with Harry James doing “The Mole” and Glen Gray's Casa Loma Orchestra playing another Cole Porter standard.  Nat King Cole performs a fine Duke Ellington favorite, “Don't Get Around Much Anymore”.  We'll team up Bing Crosby with good friend Louis Armstrong as we find they've “Gone Fishing”.  Then listen to Dean Martin with “Somewhere There's A Someone.”  Turn up Doris Day as she sings the song, “Again”, Roger Whittaker with “All of My Life”, and The Lettermen with “Shangri La”.  Catch a great early television theme with Valjean doing “The Theme from Ben Casey”.  More with Elvis and the Ames Brothers with the Les Brown Orchestra

On the Neon Beat Show 104R6:  AS we open this hour of the show we go “straight to the moon” with Sarah Vaughan.  Then we'll track a song with Tony Bennett and Count Basie singing about that “Toddlin' Town”.  Next, we'll play another old song that Connie Francis was able to revive into another hit record for herself: “My Happiness”.  Then listen to Lawrence Welk's theme song, “Bubbles in the Wine”. Hear two great period groups back to back by The Vogues and The Seekers then listen to a song by Glen Campbell listed as one of the top 500 hit songs of all time.  Get your “Jump Jive and Wailin'” on with Louis Prima followed with a Doodling Song by Peggy Lee, and a lovely movie song “Laura” sung by Vic Damone.  We'll team up Frank Sinatra with daughter Nancy for their 1967 surprise hit song, “Something Stupid”. We'll head out on the mother road with Nat King Cole as we get our kicks on “Route 66” followed up with some Big Band swing with Benny Goodman.  More great memories on the turntable with songs by Andy Williams, Joni James, Al Martino and Rosemary Clooney.  And we'll wrap it up with a fun little instrumental diddy called simply, “I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman”.  It turned up in a lot of TV schtick.  You'll remember it when you hear it. Our Big Band selections include a song called “Cherry” by Harry James and we'll cut-a-rug with Glen Gray doing “Opus One”.  Listen to an enchanting version of the song “Mamselle” sung by Robert Goulet, then Dinah Washington blasts off the stage for “Destination Moon.”  Hear a great Dave Brubeck standard sung by the Marvelous Marilyn Maye.  Peter Asher and Gordon Waller bare all for their rendition of “Lady Godiva” followed up with a salsa version of “Fool on the Hill” by Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66.  Do a little dreaming with Jo Stafford and the Pied Pipers.  And get set for a laugh riot with Bob and Ray as they enact one of their iconic interviews, “The Slow Talker”.  More songs with Bobby Vinton singing “Blue Velvet,” Bobby Darin with “Dream Lover” and another dreamin' song by Perry Como.   Also we'll track a film theme sung by Nat King Cole and comedian, Stubby Kaye as we hear them sing “The Ballad of Cat Ballou.”
