The Neon Beat on Radio George - 5.30.16

On the Neon Beat this week, Jukebox 1: Mister “Love Boat”, Jack Jones opens this hour with one of his Grammy Award winning songs, “Wives and Lovers.” Then we enjoy a couple songs by America's sweethearts, Steve and Eydie. Eydie Gorme sings a lovely version o
f “Love Letters” followed with husband Steve Lawrence with “Pretty Blue Eyes.” Enjoy some fine instrumentals with Andre Previn, Percy Faith, and the orchestra of Ralph Flanagan. We'll bring in Pearl Bailey with her 1956 take on, “Takes Two to Tango.” We'll team up Bing Crosby with Rosemary Clooney as we “Come to the Mardis Gras.” Frank Sinatra sings a swingin' version of “Pennies From Heaven,” followed up with some great Cole Porter from “Kiss Me Kate” sung by Ella Fitzgerald. We'll take a trip “Up A Lazy River” with The Mills Brothers. Listen to a croonin' version of the song “Blue Moon” by Dean Martin. Hear another Cole Porter selection sung by Roy Rogers, “Don't Fence Me In.” We'll track hit songs by Eddie Fisher, The Ames Brothers, and Kate Smith.

On The Neon Beat this week, Jukebox 2: Kay Starr launches this set as we join her “On a Slow Boat to China.” Then hear Matt Monro's 1961 hit, “My Kind of Girl.”' Listen to Ray Charles and the singers with one of his easy hits with the ABC Paramount label, “I Can't Stop Loving You.” We'll put together Tony Bennett with Count Basie for “Life is a Song,” followed up with some great big band remembering Dick Clark with Les Elgart playing, “Bandstand Boogie.” Hear more big band with Louis Armstrong with Bing Crosby, and also Benny Goodman's “Don't Be That Way.” Enjoy great groups like the Four Freshmen, The Dixie Cups, and and a live recording with The Lettermen. Kansas City's own Marilyn Maye belts out her wonderful rendition of “Make Your Own Kind of Music.” We'll spin some deep track hits by Georgie Shaw singing, “Til We Two are One,” followed by Perry Como's “Catch a Falling Star” and a forgotten track by singer, Alan Dale.” Hear Etta James, “At Last” and a little Fats Domino with “My Blue Heaven.”

On The Neon Beat this week, Jukebox 3: Rosemary Clooney begins this hour with a touch of Tabasco as she sings with Perez Prado the song, “Sway!” Enjoy some great film and Broadway music sung by Vic Damone (My Fair Lady), Kay Starr (Around the World), Ella Fitzgerald (Swingtime), and Judy Garland, (Meet Me in St Louis). Tony Bennett hooks up with Michael Buble for a great Duke Ellington standard. Then we'll do some swingin' with a great Tommy Dorsey number, “Opus One.” Nat King Cole sings a lush version of an old Harry James hit, “You Made Me Love You” and we'll feel the temperature rise in the room for Peggy Lee's “Fever.” Listen to Jo Stafford's 1951hit song, “Shrimp Boats” followed up with a Canadian French version of Robert Goulet singing, “Autumn Leaves.” We'll spin Mel Carter's big chart hit, “Hold Me Thrill Me.” Instrumentals by The Ventures, Hugo Winterhalter, and jazz pianist David Benoit. Songs by Jerry Vale and Gordon Jenkins.
