The Neon Beat on Radio George - 5.11.15

On the Neon Beat this week, Jukebox 1: Frank Sinatra launches this week’s set as we go “Swinging down the Lane.” Peggy Lee takes the stage next struttin’ her stuff with, “I Am a Woman.” We’ll hear one of the many hit recordings by the Polish Prince. Mr. Bobby Vinton sings “Blue on Blue.” Nat King Cole performs a great Bert Kaempfert song called, “LOVE.” We’ll spin some film music sung by Oklahoman Patti Page from “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.” Glen Campbell performs one of his latter 1960’s hits with that great Al DeLory arrangement of “Galveston.” Hear some great Dixieland with Al Hirt, instrumentals with Bill Doggett, Henry Mancini and David Rose. On the Neon Beat this week, Jukebox 2: Ray Charles steams on stage with his Raylettes as we open this hour with “Hit the Road Jack.” The Lettermen are next with a live performance of the song, “Going out Of My Head.” Vikki Carr sings one of most popular songs from a play called, “Little Me.” Hear the artist and record that defined the era as Nat King Cole sings “Unforgettable.” Listen to Sarah Vaughan as she sings a Broadway hit from “Damn Yankees.” Frank Sinatra performs a songbook classic, “The Lady is A Tramp” followed up by some great Rogers and Hammerstein music from the “Sound of Music” sung by Vic Damone. On The Neon Beat this week, Jukebox 3: Brook Benton loads the gospel gun as we kick off this great hour of classic favorites with “Shadrach.” Then listen to one of Tony Bennett’s early hits on the Columbia label as he sings, “Because Of You.” Hear Jackie DeShannon sing as we “Put A Little Love in Your Heart” followed by a classic by Jim Croce single. Dionne Warwick sings one of the many Burt Bacharach/Hal David hits, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again.” Enjoy some swinging big band with a great Glenn Miller hit as we get, “In the Mood.” Listen to some great scat Jazz as Ella Fitzgerald sings, ‘Blue Skies.” Hear some fine crooning with Ed Ames, Matt Monro, and Nat King Cole. We’ll pair up Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby for an old 1930’s Bunny Berigan big band standard, “I Can’t Get Started.” Hear a western set with Peggy Lee, Glen Campbell and Gene Pitney.
