The Neon Beat - 4.24.21

On The Neon Beat on Mixcloud show 45R: We launch this hour with one of Perry Como's attempts at a sock hop hit during a time when rock and roll was emerging. “Tina Marie”.  Then we “Take Five” with Marilyn Maye's vocal rendition of that great Dave Brubeck hit. Turn up more hit songs this hour with some of the fine period groups like the Andrews Sisters, The Platters, Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66, and The Association. Sammy Davis Jr sings a fun live Vegas version of “On A Clear Day.”  Get your Frank Sinatra fix with “Same Old Saturday Night”.  Our lovely women of song include Jo Stafford with her hit rendition of “You Belong to Me”, Helen Ward backed by the orchestra and horn of Harry James for the song “It's Been a Long Long Time”, and  Dionne Warwick with “You'll Never Get to Heaven”.  Our fine period instrumentals include the lively trumpet of Al Hirt with “Java”, Horst Jankowski's “A Walk in the Black Forest”, and David Rose with “The Stripper.”  Listen to Engelbert Humperdinck sing “After the Loving” and Johnny Mathis with “Misty” backed by the orchestra of Percy Faith.  More with Don Ho and a film piece with the orchestra of Felix Slatkin.
