On the Neon Beat Show 05R5: This hour we open with a light hearted song of redemption sung by Patti Page called “Cross Over the Bridge”. Then we launch into it with two great Italian pop singers as Tony Bennett sings “If I Ruled the World” followed up with Bobby Darin's 1959 hit version of “Mack the Knife”. We'll spin some great big band playing a Harry James version of “Willow Weep for Me”, Glen Gray's fine take on the Cole Porter hit song, “Begin the Beguine”, and Louis Armstrong with Bing Crosby doin' an old Kid Ory standard,“Muskrat Ramble”. (A song to be Louis's most recorded piece.) Listen to Tom Jones sing out, “Without Love” followed up with Nancy Wilson singing “Call Me”. Listen to some of the great period groups like The Lettermen, the Four Aces, and the Everly Brothers. Turn up the speaker for songs by Peggy Lee, Johnny Mathis, Dinah Shore, and Perry Como. Enjoy the dual keyboards of Ferrante and Teicher doing the song “Lisa”. More from Don Cherry singing “Band of Gold”, pianist Horst Jankowski with “Happy Frankfurt” and Rosemary Clooney with Perez Prado's Orchestra doing a salsa version of the song “Sway”. Great memories.
